Do twitch staff get paid? According to the statistics, the annual salary of Twitch admin ranges from $104,379 to $123,563. If we consider an average salary, it is $111,044. Do twitch mods get paid? No, unless there is a special circumstance where a media company (such as IGN) is streaming, it is very unlikely that they get paid.
I was talking to a few of my friends in our Discord chat who happened to stream on Twitch. They were discussing how they are having issues getting new viewers and are unsure how to improve themselves as streamers. Full disclosure, I am not a streamer but I have lurked in enough live streams to eventually be recruited to be a Moderator or Mod for one of my favorite people. So while we were.
As it was mentioned above, “Twitch Prime” viewers pay $5/month. For regular streamers, 50 percent of this subscription revenue goes to Twitch, and the caster keeps the other half. Top tier influencers, who have more than 10,000 subscribers, get to keep 70 percent of their subscription revenue.
You are probably familiar with the Amazon Prime option that has shopping benefits along with access to music and video streaming, but what on earth is Twitch Prime? As you may know, Amazon bought Twitch in 2014 and spread Prime option across the brands.
What is Twitch Prime?
If you are not an Amazon Prime subscriber yet, then you will need to become one in order to activate Twitch Prime, as it’s just one of the many benefits you get from joining the main Amazon Prime scheme, with exclusive perks for anyone who links their Twitch and Amazon accounts.
Assuming you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can try both Twitch and Amazon Prime together free for 30 days to get a feel for it. Once you’re signed up head on over to twitch.amazon.com where you’ll be able to link your accounts.
You get one free subscription every 30-days to use to support your favorite streamers. They get financial benefits; you don’t have to pay. When you go to click subscribe on their page you’ll be shown the option to use your free subscription while you have it. Once it’s gone, you’ll be reminded, and then it’ll come back 30-days later for you to spend again.
Twitch Prime subscriptions don’t auto-renew as regular subscriptions do, so you’ll need to remember to use it every month.
Twitch Prime is available everywhere globally except for China, India and “embargoed territories.” In countries where Amazon Prime is supported (U.S., Mexico, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Japan, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Singapore or the United Kingdom) you have to have Amazon Prime to also have Twitch Prime.
If you’re not in one of the countries listed above, you can sign up for Twitch Prime with a Prime Video subscription. Whichever way you play it, though, you have to have Amazon Prime something.
Twitch Turbo
If you’ve been paying for Twitch Turbo, you should cancel it immediately if you activate Twitch Prime. The benefits of Turbo are folded into Prime, you just get a different banner on your page. If you’ve been paying for both, Amazon will refund your recent Turbo payments for a limited time by opening a support ticket.
Twitch Prime benefits:
Free Twitch channel subscription every 30 days to support your favorite streamers.
Member access to free game content.
Exclusive member savings on physical games from Amazon.
Exclusive emoticons.
Expanded chat color options.
Member-Only Prime Chat Badge.
Free in-game content through partner relationships.
Free monthly games.
How Much Do Streamers Get from Twitch Prime Subs?
A new streamer who has just become a Twitch partner will get 50% of a $5 sub, so $2.50. They will also get the same rate for every prime sub they get. Since Amazon is a huge company that has publically revealed there are over 100 million Amazon Prime users, it’s most likely that 1 in 5 viewers will either have Amazon Prime account or know somebody that does.
As you already know, Prime sub is not auto-renewed. It means that after 30 days of the paid plan, the viewer will have a free 30-day subscription. If they want to use it on the same streamer they can, but they have to resubscribe.
The reason I’m mentioning this is that it can be used to your advantage if you’re a streamer. Often, people will forget their subscription has run out so they will be watching a broadcaster not knowing they have a free subscription. This is why casters will often remind people that can subscribe for free with Twitch prime! They know that people will often have a free sub available and the chances are if they’re watching the stream, they might just use it on them.
On average, pro-streamers can make between $3,000 to $5,000 per month playing 40 hours a week, just from the Prime Sub option. That number doesn’t include ad revenue, which averages about $250 per 100 subscribers.
While nobody says exactly what they make, it’s rumored that some of the biggest influencers are making over $300,000 per year playing video games. If Piper Jaffray’s estimates are right, streamers like Probly_Ovr_9000 and GuardianOutpost can continue to grow—and the numbers could be huge.
How much do Twitch Streamers Make Per Prime Sub?
Does twitch prime sub give money to partners? Paying for the membership itself does nothing for the broadcasters. However, subscribing to a specific streamer with a prime sub gives whatever normal rate the broadcaster has enabled in their contract for a normal subscription.
Some quick math revealed that top streamer Ninja, who has 121,000 subscribers, makes $423,500 a month from subscribers alone. Wang’s 4,000 subscribers earn him around $14,000 a month.
Advantages of Twitch Prime Sub for Streamers
A Prime subscription is an additional way for Twitch Partners to receive subscription revenue from their viewers. Every Twitch Prime member will receive a channel subscription at no additional cost to give to the Twitch Partner of their choice every month; this option is visible when they click the Subscribe button on a Partnered channel. And while Twitch Prime is available to viewers in the US, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, and the UK, all Partners, regardless of where they live, will be paid for Prime subscriptions to their channel in the same manner as for regular subscriptions. The revenue share remains the same for Prime subscriptions as it is for normal subscriptions.
Summing Up
As a partner, you can definitely make money from twitch prime. As a viewer, the prime sub will give you access to a number of handy benefits like free game content, exclusive emoticons, and free monthly games. You will also get a chance to use your free channel subscription to support your favorite streamer. And it costs only $5 a month. Sounds like a good deal.
A good moderator is a dependable viewer who actively wants to help the streamer grow their channel. They check the streamer’s chat and remove any comments that don’t align with the broadcaster’s channel rules. Good moderators are welcoming to newcomers and help interact with them by answering questions about the streamer and their content. They should be dependable and trustworthy.
In this post, we will talk about what you should look for in a moderator and how to fill those positions with the right people. There are always people who genuinely want to help you. Make sure you thank them and appreciate them for their efforts.
How to Mod Someone on Twitch
Here is how you can mod people on Twitch:
Option 1: The easiest way to mod someone on Twitch is to type in the command /mod USERNAME in your chat while they are in your channel. The person should become a mod at that point.
Option 2: Click on the person’s name in the chat. You will be given the option to promote them to mod. Click that option.
What Are Stream Moderators?
Your moderators are people that you have selected to help you manage your chat and build your community. They remove posts that are against the stream’s rules and issue warnings, time-outs, and bans. Mods can keep a log of their actions and the reasons for them that you can see if there is a dispute. They should be familiar with you and your content and know all the chat commands associated with your channel.
Moderators can also answer questions, handle spreadsheets, and anything else that you agree upon. The right ones will understand you and your community and will genuinely want to help.
Do Twitch Mods Get Paid?
Twitch mods are not paid by the platform, nor are they generally paid by the streamer. Many broadcasters do offer their mods perks or gifts on the anniversaries of when their moderation began or during the holiday season. Gifts may include game codes, gift cards, special stream perks, or individual presents.
How Many Mods Should You Have on Twitch?
We recommend starting with a stream chatbot. These are automated moderators that you can pre-customize to delete messages with hateful speech, links, and other things you don’t wish to have displayed on your channel.
After that, we agree with Twitch’s recommendation: to add them as needed. If you are still growing, having one or two that stay for most of your stream time should be sufficient. As you grow, you will need to add more. Twitch recommends that you have 5 active mods for every 200 viewers once you start getting five messages per second. With a chatbot, you can manage with fewer.
Pick the Right Mods for Your Stream
Don’t feel pressured to pick a moderator that makes you uncomfortable. Your mods will be your assistants, and if you worry that they will cause problems or step outside of your rules, don’t make them a mod, even if they beg. Perhaps, especially if they beg.
The worst that can happen is that you will lose a viewer if you don’t accept them. Find a way to “let them down” easy and stay professional. If the press you, let them know that you have heard them and that you will reach out to them in the future if you change your mind.
Patiently Wait for the Right Person
Don’t rush into getting mods. Wait for the right people to show up. These are people that you will need to trust with your channel, your brand, and your reputation.
Choosing people because you are in a hurry or because you feel pressured to do so could cause stress and might even set your channel back a few steps. Moderators are human beings with their thoughts and agendas. If their goals for your channel aren’t aligned with yours, you will have a mess on your hands.
When the right person comes along, have a chat with them before you make them a mod. Explain your vision for your channel. Ask them if they have any feedback for you. If their thoughts are helpful and useful for the channel growth, then consider them for the position.
If their ideas are about their interaction with you or what benefits they will receive as a mod, they might not be the right person. Let them know what you expect them to do up-front so that there are no surprises on their end after their promotion.
Characteristics of Good Mods
If you aren’t using your real-life friends and family as moderators, it can be hard to know who to trust online right away. As people join your community, you will have the chance to interact with them, and, in time, you will be able to gauge their character. There are a few aspects that you can seek out, which will help you select your mods. We have listed several below:
People who encourage conversation. Look for individuals who talk with your other viewers, not just with you. Make sure they are naturally social without extreme views on touchy subjects. An excellent communicator who isn’t immature is a good place to start. Find someone who is respectful and won’t drop to the level of trolls. They need to be able to diffuse dissent and handle all viewers with patience.
Loyal to your community. We don’t mean that they have to watch you exclusively, but when they are on your channel, they encourage each other and bring overall joy. Look for people that your other members appreciate and flock around.
Someone you can trust. As stated earlier, your moderators can make or break your channel. You are handing over a big responsibility to them. Be sure to know they won’t abuse their power by gloating over other viewers or creating unnecessary drama.
Don’t promote someone just because they donate to your stream. While you should appreciate their gifts to you, acknowledge that they are gifts. If you don’t feel comfortable with them as a person or if you don’t think they are a good fit for your mod team, don’t promote them.
Select mods that work well with each other. Once you have a few mods, you can include them in your future selection process. They may be able to spot the right qualities in someone before you do.
Collaborate with other live-streamers. Offer to mod their channel if they will mod yours. Make sure that you are both dedicated to helping the other channel grow. Broadcasters know first-hand the work that goes into building a channel, and they make natural moderators.
Watch for people who actively promote your stream. If they are passionate about helping your channel in this way, they may be excited to help you in different ways. People who communicate with you on Discord to give you helpful ideas for future content may also be good fits. They are part of your audience, and they may be able to help you target more people of their demographic.
Make sure that they are dependable and that they follow through with what they say will do. You don’t want people who want the title without the job.
Don’t promote attention-seekers. These people tend to scare off newcomers (even if it is subconsciously) by demanding your attention or being too clingy. New viewers will be less likely to engage with you or your community if they see that the mods want to be in control. On the same note, don’t make everyone a mod. Have some “real viewers” in the chat to help welcome newcomers and make the conversation less intimidating to join.
How to Select Your Twitch Mods
There are a few ways you can find your mods. If you are unsure about who to ask, you can create a form for people who are interested in helping you out. Create a Google Form and post the link in your Discord or your profile. Let people know that it is there. Make sure to ask questions that would let you know if the person would be a good fit for your team.
If you have someone in mind, reach out to them on the platform. You can either talk to the viewer directly through chat or whisper them on Twitch if you want the conversation to be private. Let them know what you expect from them and how you want them to interact with your channel.
You can also ask your real-life friends and family to help you moderate your channel. Most likely, you’ll know that you can trust them (hopefully), and they will want to help you grow your stream.
How to Remove a Twitch Mod
If you need to demote someone, try to do so kindly and professionally. Thank them for the work they have done and explain why you need to demote them. They will usually understand and see it coming if they have crossed any lines. Remember that you must do what is best for your channel, and if someone is causing issues, they need to be removed.
Make Your Mods’ Lives Easier!
Being a mod isn’t always easy. People may target them if their message was deleted. Make their lives easier by posting your rules in your profile. This way they can refer to your profile page when questioned about their actions.
Have a designated Discord channel for them where they can discuss ideas or ask for clarification. They can work together and with you to make rules clearer and develop ways to strengthen your community.
Do Twitch Mods Get Paid
Always remember to thank them for their help. People are willing to help more when they feel that their work is appreciated. When you are finally able to afford it, use some of your earnings to give them incentives and rewards for their service.
Wonder 4 jackpots. Don’t expect them all to be there every time you stream. They have lives and responsibilities. Keep a schedule on your Discord to see when they will show up so that you know you are covered but don’t put pressure on them to always be around. They are donating their time to help you out. Be aware of that and appreciate their efforts.

Twitch Moderator Pay
As your channel grows, so will your need for additional moderators. If you have started with a strong foundation, adding more people to your team should become more natural. Always make sure that you get along with them and that they get along with each other.
